Mother Teresa, "The Letters," Speaks to the Heart

Last night I watched The Letters about Mother Teresa and it was an amazing movie. I am glad to have learned so much more about her. What an incredible person and story. She won the Nobel Peace prize in 1979 and was canonized in 2003.

Watch the movie trailer below:

The movie is based on a series of letters that she wrote to her spiritual director over six decades. It seemed to have mixed reviews online due mostly to the arrangement and narration but do not let those fool you, this is an excellent, moving and heartfelt movie that every single person should have to watch. In seeing not only so much that she endured but that of those for whom she cared, it is a strong reminder that most of us have little over which to complain. Many of us living in the comforts of Western society indeed forget (or even ignore) from day-to-day how truly we have been blessed and we will let even the tiniest inconvenience upset our day yet we do not know true hardship in most of our lives.

There were points in the movie where I felt I could barely breathe and the lump in my throat so large, it was difficult to swallow. One such moment was a at the point where she was so tired from walking back and forth to the slums, spending all day there and trying to help so many and she says, “Today, I learned a good lesson. The poverty of the poor must be so hard for them. While looking for a home I walked and walked till my arms and legs ached. I thought how much they must ache in body and soul, looking for a home, food and health.”  This touched me so as I sit complaining of my own tiny trials and obstacles, fully realizing that I, nor most in the western world, have anything to complain about. Appreciation, gratitude and thankfulness for the blessings I and so many have been given, poured forth in tears of painful self-reproach.

Regardless of religious or spiritual belief, Mother Teresa is probably one of the most influential persons of modern time, a role model worthy of at least our recognition but more certainly of our efforts to learn, to grow, to share the Spirit and to do all that we may in the help of others, unconditionally, through pure self-sacrificing love.

Follow the light of your heart!

Many blessings.

Bible Will Teach You How to Know Your Enemy; Know Your Self

When we study the Word, and we are given the ears to hear, and the ability to discern, we can then be confident of the truth from wherever it comes. Last night in re-watching the movie, “Birth of the Dragon,” I was able to understand so much more due to my Bible studies. From the movie, “Lesson number one, know your enemy. Lesson number two, know your self. With these two principles, you need never fear a thousand battles.” This was so heavy and so profound and I got it on such a deep spiritual level regarding all facets of life (not just regarding two men in physical combat). The Bible has shown me how to know my enemy and to know my self and therefore not fear. When we truly understand that we are an eternal child of God, then we know our self . When we understand that anyone or thing (including our own thoughts) that is not in the light of God is of the darkness (even those lost in the gray), then we know our enemy.  Jesus said in Mathew 12:30, “He t...

He Will Make My Feet Like Deer's Feet

There is a tree out my window with branches that look like a stag. I have been contemplating it for years. Sometimes I forget about it, others I see it. The tree stag has been jumping out at me recently again.  I looked it up and found a couple quotes on websites, “the stag came to symbolize God’s power, nobility, freedom and purity.” In Scottish lore, it symbolizes regeneration because of the antlers. “In the Christian imagination, the deer is a symbol of piety, devotion and of God taking care of his children: men.” “In it's simplest form, deer symbolize the joys of loving Christ intimately (Song of Songs 2:7). In biblical symbology, deer represent piety, devotion, and safety in God's care. They are a symbol of thirst and longing for the Lord. ... Deer feet are an analogy for our spiritual feet.”  There were also a couple saints associated with the stag as divine encounters. It basically represents something good in every culture, but I went with the Scottish...
