Spiritually Speaking, Are We Allowed to Prosper Financially?

There are many different spiritual viewpoints on whether or not we are to prosper in life and in our livelihood but most all lean at least toward the idea that materialism is wrong. For many years I tried to adhere to the idea that we create our own prosperity but it just never worked no matter what I did, no matter which religious or spiritual beliefs I was cycling through at the time. I have stated in other articles that it is my belief that once we commit to a spiritual path, then the Spirit is in control; God is in control. Our ability to prosper may be affected by lessons for growth, the need to be humbled, or any number of reasons, and that no amount of positive thinking or manifesting or attempts at controlling or “creating” your circumstances will change this. I made the mistake of listening to the flood of new age authors and philosophies that encourage spiritual seekers that there is nothing wrong with asserting a “spiritual” business and manifesting financial succ

Getting Spiritually Centered and Focused for the Week

Mondays can be difficult to get focused and any day can easily get out of sync if we are not focused. Worry, fear, distractions come in all forms and invade our thoughts and before we know it, we have begun to spiral downward which takes us out of the spiritual flow. What is true is right now, this day, this moment. Anything else is fear, worry, speculation or distraction and all of these will rob your focus. Getting re-focused is the best way to get the joy and the energy flowing again. Picking a verse to help you re-focus throughout the day is a simple and effective way to get back into the flow of the Spirit in all that you think and do. Memorize one for the day and pause to repeat it whenever you need to re-focus.  Following are a few suggested Bible verses on staying focused: Romans 8:5 . . . those who live according to the Spirit set their minds on the things of the Spirit. Proverbs 16:3 3 Commit thy works unto the Lord, and thy thoughts shall be esta

Brief Guided Meditation/Affirmation/Prayer - God Is All/I Am All

This is a brief, uplifting, guided meditation, affirmation and prayer to help you to open up consciously to fill you with the light and energy of God that is within. Quick and easy, do this any where, any time; at your desk, in a waiting room, recline in your parked car a moment, at home, in a park, wherever you are, this is quick enough to relax, de-stress and refresh your spirit and re-align your connection. What am I this day? I am wisdom. I am a healer. I am God's energy and light. I am God's energy and light. It is directed through me so there is nothing I cannot do or be. I am all. I see that. I see that if I am God's energy, then I am all. I am God's energy therefore I have the energy of God in me and I can do all. The energy of God is flowing through me. The energy of God is my source for all. I am all. The energy of God is in me and I am all. I am all. God is all. God is in me and I am all. Thank you for viewing! Please SUBSCRIBE to my c

Joy is Key Factor in Healing Process

Isaiah 12:3 promises, “Therefore with joy shall ye draw water out of the wells of salvation,” and according to author, Greg Zoschak, in A Call For Character , “Salvation means safety, soundness, deliverance, preservation, and health . It covers every aspect of life, not just the spiritual aspect. . . These blessings are drawn to the surface (or to manifestation) through joy.” But how do we get to this joy? How do we cultivate it, manifest it? We can only experience true joy within the moment because if we are worrying or anxious or fearful or thinking about the past or the future, then the joy cannot flow through us. Only by fully letting go in the moment can we allow the joy to flow through and only a clear mind will be able to experience it. That is one reason that activities like meditation, prayer and quiet time can serve us so well; as we clear our minds, we open them to receive and further cultivate the fruits of the Spirit. Cultivating joy is one wa

Mother Teresa, "The Letters," Speaks to the Heart

Mother Teresa, known in the Roman Catholic Church as Saint Teresa of Calcutta (born Anjezë Gonxhe Bojaxhiu). Photo: Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license. Last night I watched The Letters about Mother Teresa and it was an amazing movie. I am glad to have learned so much more about her. What an incredible person and story. She won the Nobel Peace prize in 1979 and was canonized in 2003. Watch the movie trailer below: The movie is based on a series of letters that she wrote to her spiritual director over six decades. It seemed to have mixed reviews online due mostly to the arrangement and narration but do not let those fool you, this is an excellent, moving and heartfelt movie that every single person should have to watch. In seeing not only so much that she endured but that of those for whom she cared, it is a strong reminder that most of us have little over which to complain. Many of us living in the comforts of Western society i

Recipe for Life

Who we are is like the ingredients of a cake. Think about it, if you were baking a cake and you did not get the ingredients right, no matter how pretty you ice it on the outside, if it does not taste right on the inside, it is not going to work. Our insides are just like those ingredients in the cake. If we mix in the wrong amount and negative things, that is what we will get, what we will be, who we will become, no matter how well we dress on the outside or how pretty we are born. Imagine if you were making a cake and you put in depressing thoughts, anger, negative feelings, hurt, despair, fear. Can you imagine how this cake would taste? Instead consider positive ingredients and the difference it would make. We have to add all good ingredients in the right amount (which in this case means balance). Even the tiniest pinch of too much salt can ruin the whole thing. Without flour, it cannot bind together. Without sugar, it is not sweet. Without baking powder or soda, it

Depression Can Signal Time to Re-Connect

Depression can signal many things including the need to overcome, to get up and fight, to defeat the darkness. I guess there is a question here that we must first answer and that is, do we believe that the power of the Spirit within can overcome depression, especially if it is due to a chemical imbalance in the body? Personally I believe it can; I know it can because I have the resume’ to prove it. One thing for sure is that it signals that we are out of spiritual alignment, whatever the reason. So it is important to find where and why we went off in the other direction and get back on track. Some things take effort. Choosing and staying in joy takes effort, fighting the darkness takes effort, staying in spiritual alignment takes effort, otherwise we veer off and the next thing we know, we have lost the connection, depression has snuck in and taken control. Depression signals that it may be time for a pause. There is nothing wrong with taking a pause, stepping back, contem

Fix Your Day with Self-Sacrificing Love

If you are feeling “off” today or out of sync, turning to the Bible will bring you to where you need to be, show you where you are lacking. The following verses in particular, are a perfect reference for checking our behavior daily and keeping sure that we are not just going through the motions. When we are not behaving rightly, our day can go askew because we are out of spiritual alignment. As I contemplated my own day and mood, I was drawn to 1 Cor, “ . . . though I speak with the tongue of men and angels . . . “ which makes me think I am still lacking in self-sacrificing love. I thought to myself, I don’t know what more to do to become truly charitable. Well, take a look at the list Cheryl, that’s what to do: First let us read the full script: 1 Corinthians 13:1-11 (KJV) 13 Though I speak with the tongues of men and of angels, and have not charity, I am become as sounding brass, or a tinkling cymbal. 2 And though I have the gift of prophecy, and under
