Discovering Your Power

It is always with a sense of wonder that when we re-discover who we truly are, that we come alive. Our senses are heightened, our creativity sparks and we are free to fly toward our dreams with renewed passion.  Little Fairy by the Flowers Little fairy by the flowers, Sits and waits and counts the hours, Yet did she know the busy bee, Had spread its pollen to the sea? Little fairy by the flowers Has now discovered her own powers, To spread her wings far and wide, She knows her magic lies inside. Little fairy holds the key To all she’d ever dreamed could be. And now that she’s unlocked the gate, Her dreams no longer have to wait. Little fairy learned to see, to be the best that she could be, required her only to believe, that all her dreams, she could receive. Little Fairy, sings her song, Dancing in the moonlit dawn, Her heart now filled with merry glee,                     She

Welcome September

The arrival of September has always heralded the beginning of autumn for me, probably harking back to school days, for when I was young, we started school at the beginning of September, right after Labor Day. Fall is my favorite time of year; I am an autumn-head and I love everything about it.  I am ready to stick my nose into some old musty books, curl up and watch the entire series of Harry Potter, go fairy-hunting and make potpourri. To me, fall is the most magical time of year, opening the veil to the otherworld as the "old ones" believed. Harvest celebrations, ancestral holidays and celebrations, Halloween and All-Souls Day, all remind us of who we are and from whence we came. Fairies are about and the magic of the world is alive and energetic to those who feel its presence.  Fall is a time to rekindle belief. In Christianity, Advent comes, which is a time of reflection on the spiritual and to one's commitment to God. I personally always felt that

St. Teresa of Avila on Meditation

painting of St. Teresa in 1576 at the age of 61. As I have mentioned, I have a fascination with Medieval women and I spend much time researching them. Imagine my surprise when as I am also a yoga and meditation instructor, I came across this piece from the writings of St. Teresa of Avila on meditation: "And though men may attain more quickly to the state of contemplation, if they persevere, by this way of inability to exert the intellect, yet is the process more laborious and painful; for if the will have nothing to occupy it, and if love have no present object to rest on, the soul is without support and without employment--its isolation and dryness occasion great pain, and the thoughts assail it most grievously. Persons in this condition must have greater purity of conscience than those who can make use of their understanding; for he who can use his intellect in the way of meditation on what the world is, on what he owes to God, on the great sufferings of God fo

Medieval Women of Faith: Saints, Mystics and Holy Women

Fresco of Saint Clare and sisters of her order, church of   San Damiano, Assisi There have always been those who throughout time have isolated themselves in pursuit of a devotional life and women were certainly among them. Much of my fascination with women of faith lies within the Medieval period with the first serious spiritual writings and directives that begin to emerge from groups and women like the Beguines, the Poor Clares, Hildegard, Hadewjich, St. Catherine, and so many others. Feminine Christian mystics, visionaries, saints, and leaders of their time, who laid a foundation that would continue to uphold and guide women of faith into the present-day. They were the shining example of the true light of the spirit in a dark and dangerous time. They were pace-setters, they were sometimes rule-breakers; they had to forge a path where previously there was none. They had the courage to break off from society, to stand for those who could not, to reach out and give when

You are an Expression of the Divine

Divinely love yourself for you are an expression of the Divine. Gosh we kind of think it is uncool to love ourselves but in fact that is exactly what we should do because we are a physical expression of the Divine Spirit that not only created us but is the spark of pure life but that lives within us. By honoring our whole self, loving our whole self, caring for our whole self, we become our best and we honor and love the Spirit within that is us. This is especially true and acceptable when we think of our bodies as the temple that houses our Spirit. We are told in 1 Corinthians 6:19, "Do you not know that your bodies are temples of the Holy Spirit, who is in you, whom you have received from God? You are not your own;" and in  1 Corinthians 3:16, "Do you not know that you yourselves are God's temple, and that God's Spirit dwells in you?"  This is what God wants for us, to love ourselves in a Divinely manner because our bodies are temples o

Insights from a Thunderstorm, Learning to Just "Be"

A rare occasion when I post a journal entry but today was particularly insightful so I thought I would share. Please note that when I refer to my health, healing and struggles, I am referring to horrid menopause, low blood sugar and a lifelong battle with depression but these insights may be applied to any health issue or situation in life with which you may be struggling. Today there was a thunderstorm so I was forced to get off the computer whereas I had planned to write until I raised my energy level (which some days I have to do) but apparently there were some things I needed to see first and I saw a lot during that thunderstorm. I had no juice to do anything creative and I couldn’t be on my computer so I was really forced to just be . To just relax. I lay on the couch with the rain and the thunder. I realized that that is my biggest problem, especially in my healing; not relaxing, not just being . I don’t let myself relax for whatever reasons, fear of not seizing

From Hope to Empowerment

Hope is the light that shines in the darkest hour but at some point, you have to climb beyond hope to empowerment. Hope gives you the courage to do so. Once you have seen the light of hope, if you remain clinging only to it without moving beyond it, you remain chained. Hope is there to show you the way out, to light the way to empowerment. It is a step in the process but eventually you must let go and step on into your power. Namaste and Angel Blessings! Get your journey on! Your soul-journey. Step into Your Own

At some point in your journey, you may begin to feel restless, unfulfilled or feel a strong desire to add more depth and meaning to your life and to your very existence. It is part of your growth and very natural to have these feelings. Old friends, jobs or careers, stale relationships, stagnate living quarters may all seem suddenly worn and dated leaving you with that what now feeling.  There is a fresh new you waiting to be uncovered beneath the facade of life and the illusion of who you may have become in order to please others or society at large, to achieve success in the workplace or to raise your children. We all wear masks daily but deep within, we are free of the masks and this soul-filled energy of the Divine feminine is waiting for you to begin to discover the true you and the power with which it comes.  Discovering this inner you is the journey, the journey within and once uncovered will begin to add goodness, joy, abundance and love to your life overall as y

Dropping Everything to Follow Divine Guidance

Have you ever just dropped everything you were doing because God told you to? I have, many times, but the most important time was at the onset of my spiritual journey. It was 1988 and I was recently divorced. I had moved around, trying out different living situations from a townhouse to a place in the country to renting a room from a friend of a friend. Nothing ever felt right and I hated being alone. I had finally moved on property at a hotel where I was working. I had worked in executive hotel management for many years already and it was not uncommon for management to live on property. I was not any happier but it felt safer and was at least no cost and more convenient. Then one morning a few months later, I woke from a dream that shook my world to the core. I had dreamed that my grandfather died. My grandparents raised me from the time I lost my mother at ten months old. They were essentially my parents. We had lost my grandmother, Mama, the year before which subsequ
