Nothing starts the day off better than a quiet morning spot
of your own. A place to waken with the peace of the day, preferably as nature
awakens and unfolds. The rising sun, the tweet of the birds or the caw of a
crow, trees gently glistening in the morning mist or sun and a view if possible
of all the beauty to behold, all gently nudge the spirit within toward a
glorious day. A place of time for brief early contemplation over that first cup
of coffee or tea can be the most uplifting experience of the day.
If you live in an environment that does not offer the nature
of the morning, you can create your own inviting environment with plants,
indoor table-top waterfalls, candles or incense and a cozy nook or even at the
kitchen table before the rest of the household wakes.
Some of my best memories are of cold winter mornings spent
in our 1920s rural home in Missouri .
I would rise before my husband and children to literally go into the kitchen to
light my great-grandmother’s old cook stove (as my family had always called it)
so that it’s warmth would add to the one old heater that otherwise heated our
home. I would make a pot of tea and sit quietly at the old wooden table as the
large time-honored kitchen slowly began to warm. There I would think on the day
as I gazed upon the three old maples that stood watch over our yard.
Wherever I am, I always try to create even a little morning
spot. It hearkens from my childhood when my grandparents (who raised me) would
sit at their kitchen table together, sharing their morning coffee; each quietly
gazing through the large dining window out to the crows pecking through the
yard for the scraps my grandmother would have thrown out for them from the
dinner the night before. The scene always lent a sense of morning peace and
comfort as they quietly began their day together.
Each morning in my spot, I sit and look out upon the elms
and the Big Ditch (which is a riverbed than runs when the rains come or the
mountains are melting off their snow). It is filled with nature and no matter
the season, offers much in morning solitude.
Wherever you live, find a way to carve out your own morning
spot to begin your day. If you have to, get up an hour early before the rest of
the household or share the spot with your spouse. Either way, your own morning
spot filled with quiet and contemplation, will change the pace and flow of your
days so you will more easily align with the Spirit within. It makes an opportune
time for prayers, affirmations, gratitude and thanks, as well as receiving your
own Divine guidance. Give your day a fresh start each day with your own morning
spot.
