Journal
October 16, 2015
Cool rainy, weather, journaling, Anais Nin, Hawaii Five-0 and Chili Dogs.

My life at present is a giant blinking cursor on a blank page because I am in-between projects. This happens every few years, probably to most writers. But I have been keeping journals dating back to 1978 when I first began. That’s a lot of journals. My son seems to think I should publish them, but why on earth anyone would want to read them, I cannot imagine. I feel like Anais Nin, keeping them safely tucked away in a vault (or in my case a storage unit, at least those that are pre-computer years). Anyway, since journaling is what I do the most (I won’t say best), I will keep a journal here at my blog for no reason at all other than it occupies me and helps me to think and heal, grow, create and prattle on.

One of my unfinished projects that I can’t seem to get back on (as I am still waiting on that trip to London) is an historical/fantasy/fiction novel titled Ravenna. I only found out today that Oscar Wilde has a poem of the same title, his though is of course about the town Ravenna in Italy. Mine is a fascinating combination of historical fiction mixed with fantasy paralleling both the Medieval world and the modern day with two strong and amazing female characters racing against evil through the passageways of time. From the magic of Avalon to the marauding raiders of the Welsh Marches, ancient priests and secret societies, modern-day thugs and ageless evil, RAVENNA will stand the test of time both in her story and on the shelves (once it is finished that is . . . )

In the meantime, I am preparing dinner in my New Mexico home on a cool, rainy, autumn day as I await this evening’s latest episode of Hawaii Five-0. And yes, we are having chili-dogs smothered in cheese and onions!

Thanks for joining me, until tomorrow,

Bible Will Teach You How to Know Your Enemy; Know Your Self

When we study the Word, and we are given the ears to hear, and the ability to discern, we can then be confident of the truth from wherever it comes. Last night in re-watching the movie, “Birth of the Dragon,” I was able to understand so much more due to my Bible studies. From the movie, “Lesson number one, know your enemy. Lesson number two, know your self. With these two principles, you need never fear a thousand battles.” This was so heavy and so profound and I got it on such a deep spiritual level regarding all facets of life (not just regarding two men in physical combat). The Bible has shown me how to know my enemy and to know my self and therefore not fear. When we truly understand that we are an eternal child of God, then we know our self . When we understand that anyone or thing (including our own thoughts) that is not in the light of God is of the darkness (even those lost in the gray), then we know our enemy.  Jesus said in Mathew 12:30, “He t...

Returning to Peace in the Midst of Darkness

As are many Americans, I am having trouble processing this latest mass shooting, it gets harder every time. Do I just stay in the monk cell and be quiet or speak my mind or just turn it over or what? Just worry about dealing with my own self or the welfare of others? Jesus spoke out. The Pope speaks out. Paul spoke out. Keep silent so as not to offend the sensitivities of my “friends” or stand for the lives and the rights and safety of American children? It seems there is something wrong with a nation that would support the rights to have automatic weapons over the safety of our children. Disagree? Don’t get in my face; get in Christ’s face and sincerely ask what He has to say about children being murdered as we sit and allow it. The Apostle Paul tells us, “Let us therefore make every effort to do what leads to peace and to mutual edification.” Romans 14:19 The Pope can speak better than I . . .  “In the silence of the Cross, the uproar of weapons ceases and the lan...
