The arrival of September has always heralded the beginning of autumn for me, probably harking back to school days, for when I was young, we started school at the beginning of September, right after Labor Day.
Fall is my favorite time of year; I am an autumn-head and I love everything about it. I am ready to stick my nose into some old musty books, curl up and watch the entire series of Harry Potter, go fairy-hunting and make potpourri.
To me, fall is the most magical time of year, opening the veil to the otherworld as the "old ones" believed. Harvest celebrations, ancestral holidays and celebrations, Halloween and All-Souls Day, all remind us of who we are and from whence we came. Fairies are about and the magic of the world is alive and energetic to those who feel its presence.
Fall is a time to rekindle belief. In Christianity, Advent comes, which is a time of reflection on the spiritual and to one's commitment to God. I personally always felt that because I was born in the fall (November baby), that it is my fiscal year-end and therefore I pause to take stock of my life as well as to enjoy the full autumn bounty.
