Use spiritually positive and uplifting words to help you turn your thoughts from depressing to lovely |
“8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and
if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
Most of my life I have suffered from depression. Reading the
Bible has helped me more than anything I have ever tried and I am immediately
uplifted when I read and for a good while afterwards. Yet there are still
in-between times that can get to me.
Today was one of those times as I woke and found myself in
the fog. Having just finished reading, “Loving God with All Your Mind,” by
Elizabeth George, I have been using her teaching method on Philippians 4:8 of
asking if the thing that is depressing or worrying you is true or real and it
helped me to immediately heal and let go of the past, of my entire past, as
well as to stop worrying about the future. Nothing else has ever done that and
at last I have a tool to use in healing depression (as well as fear).
That question though was in thoughts of fears or what-if’s
of the future or pain or regret over the past, today neither of those were the
case. It was more the wake-up-to-clouds, hormones taking me down, exhaustion
from a lot of physical activity the day before, and feeling lost with confusion
in the hormonal fog, so applying the is
it true or real question was of no help because I am in the present with
these things but I wondered if the other aspects of the verse could help other
triggers for depression such as I was having today. So I re-read it:
“8 Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things are pure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and
if there be any praise, think on these things.” Philippians 4:8
After re-reading, I looked to see which of these would apply
to how I felt today, and it was lovely,
“. . . whatsoever things are lovely . . .
think on these things.” That was it, my thoughts were not lovely, they were
down and blah and depressing. My mood was instantly uplifted and changed. It
worked. I began to focus on lovely thoughts of joy and feeling good and good
things and suddenly the low mood was gone and my energy level increased
immediately as well, an extra little bonus. Depression drains and saps our
energy level so this was an amazing experience on my part, to actually see the
change in action.
This works for me and it worked for the author, Elizabeth George. Whatever your depression, find the aspect in
this verse that will apply and use it to heal. And if you suffer from
depression, I highly recommend “Loving God with All Your Mind,” by Elizabeth
George. I am not a doctor and I can only share what has worked for me but if you're looking for faith healing, the Bible is your answer.
Many blessings.
