Sticking with Faith

Who knows why each of us do the things we do or what causes us to stick with some things and to abandon others. Why we may delve in with passion one minute and completely lose interest the next? It may be a matter of sticking with faith rather than things.

Thinking about sticking with one thing, or not . . .  I have done so many things in my life but with how many have I stayed? And does it matter if I didn’t? Lots of my friends and acquaintances are out over the holidays attending Broadway shows, holiday gatherings, shopping and dining at high-end places, taking mountain ski trips or Christmas cruises because they stuck something out (you know, forty years of nine-to-five), while I am here recycling last year’s Christmas cards into name tags, trying to figure out how to make a wreath from four pine cones and a piece of discarded frosted wedding decor because I chose instead to live on simple faith. Yet I have accomplished much; some in little ways and some in big ways. And, some of us just may have simpler ambitions, ambitions of the heart rather than the wallet. I believe it is my simple ambitions that have allowed me to follow my heart and to stick to my faith which led me to find love and a soulmate, God, friendship, beauty, creativity, knowledge, and  a lot of trial and error, but always, always, a life filled by Divine purpose. A life built on keeping faith and finding success in faith.

It is not easy choosing to live on faith but that is the choice I made decades ago. I guess at least I can say it is the one thing with which I did stick, and to me, it is the one thing that matters. God has always provided both in terms of material need and soulful desire. The balance of my checking account does not weigh in comparison to the balance of my soul, thankfully. I am so thankful I chose to live on faith.

Give wings to your faith and do what you want to do; your faith will see you through.

Bible Will Teach You How to Know Your Enemy; Know Your Self

When we study the Word, and we are given the ears to hear, and the ability to discern, we can then be confident of the truth from wherever it comes. Last night in re-watching the movie, “Birth of the Dragon,” I was able to understand so much more due to my Bible studies. From the movie, “Lesson number one, know your enemy. Lesson number two, know your self. With these two principles, you need never fear a thousand battles.” This was so heavy and so profound and I got it on such a deep spiritual level regarding all facets of life (not just regarding two men in physical combat). The Bible has shown me how to know my enemy and to know my self and therefore not fear. When we truly understand that we are an eternal child of God, then we know our self . When we understand that anyone or thing (including our own thoughts) that is not in the light of God is of the darkness (even those lost in the gray), then we know our enemy.  Jesus said in Mathew 12:30, “He t...

He Will Make My Feet Like Deer's Feet

There is a tree out my window with branches that look like a stag. I have been contemplating it for years. Sometimes I forget about it, others I see it. The tree stag has been jumping out at me recently again.  I looked it up and found a couple quotes on websites, “the stag came to symbolize God’s power, nobility, freedom and purity.” In Scottish lore, it symbolizes regeneration because of the antlers. “In the Christian imagination, the deer is a symbol of piety, devotion and of God taking care of his children: men.” “In it's simplest form, deer symbolize the joys of loving Christ intimately (Song of Songs 2:7). In biblical symbology, deer represent piety, devotion, and safety in God's care. They are a symbol of thirst and longing for the Lord. ... Deer feet are an analogy for our spiritual feet.”  There were also a couple saints associated with the stag as divine encounters. It basically represents something good in every culture, but I went with the Scottish...
