When You Feel Afraid - God’s Promise of Protection

For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

No one has to go it alone.

We all fear at times; some stay in fear. Fear is no way to live and I know because I have lived there. Reading the scriptures showed me time and again God’s promise of protection for believers. From the Old Testament all the way through the New Testament, stories of example after example of God’s protection and intervention are given us as well as inspirational verses that are easy to remember and return to when needed.

Following you will find some of the verses offering God’s protection that you may easily refer to or better yet, read the Bible and make your own relevant list from which to work. These are what I have put together. They will strengthen your resolve, clear your head and help to keep you focused and grounded.

Deuteronomy 31:6
6 Be strong and of a good courage, fear not, nor be afraid of them: for the Lord thy God, he it is that doth go with thee; he will not fail thee, nor forsake thee.

Psalm 121:3
3 He will not suffer thy foot to be moved: he that keepeth thee will not slumber.

2 Thessalonians 3:3
3 But the Lord is faithful, who shall stablish you, and keep you from evil.

1 Peter 1:5
5 Who are kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation ready to be revealed in the last time.

Proverbs 1:33
But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil.

Genesis 28:15
15 And, behold, I am with thee, and will keep thee in all places whither thou goest, and will bring thee again into this land; for I will not leave thee, until I have done that which I have spoken to thee of.

Psalm 91:3-7
3 Surely he shall deliver thee from the snare of the fowler, and from the noisome pestilence.
4 He shall cover thee with his feathers, and under his wings shalt thou trust: his truth shall be thy shield and buckler.
5 Thou shalt not be afraid for the terror by night; nor for the arrow that flieth by day;
6 Nor for the pestilence that walketh in darkness; nor for the destruction that wasteth at noonday.
7 A thousand shall fall at thy side, and ten thousand at thy right hand; but it shall not come nigh thee.

Psalm 91:11
11 For he shall give his angels charge over thee, to keep thee in all thy ways.

And this one will particularly help you to rest peacefully:
Psalm 4:8
8 I will both lay me down in peace, and sleep: for thou, Lord, only makest me dwell in safety.

Make reading the scriptures your daily practice and watch the fear disappear completely from your life as you develop a closer relationship to, and understanding of God and all that is offered to you.

Words Across Time

Words linger. Whether it is audible, something spoken to us or something we read, words linger in our minds and stick like glue. Words are one of the few things that set us apart from all the other animals and living things, we can speak. Is it any wonder that the memory of a mother’s soft coo can so strongly calm and send us to the kitchen for a cup of coco or that the memory of a scolding can set us trembling? Words are positive, negative or neutral; neutral words have little effect but words of a positive or negative nature can lift up and inspire or tear down and destroy. In a sense, they are our strongest power and thus the power of words move with us across time. St. Catherine Christine de Pisan Whether I am reading the Bible or an ancient manuscript crafted out a thousand or more years ago by isolated monks on some remote island or a contemporary twentieth century author who has now passed, it never ceases to amaze me that I get to hear their thoughts acr...
